Chapter 7: I am Home!

I AM HOME!

As Marty rode through the water his excitement increased. It was a clear day but the waves in the sea were really high. At times he was quite scared that he would tumble and fall into the water, but he constantly prayed that he would get home safely.

He had been a good boy and he was sorry that he wasn't careful in the past. He rode in the direction drawn in the map. But there are no roads in the ocean so he was not sure that he was going the right way! He only followed the sun and into a dense storm-like cloud.

The cloud was actually a cloud of smoke perhaps from the pollution from the city of London. He started sneezing. He nuzzled and started driving again, he could see the harbour now at a distance. It looked very cloudy there but Marty was super excited to see it.

He was so excited that he jumped on his seat and just then the engine fell out!
It was an old Jet Ski, but Marty had hoped it would run until he got to the harbour safely. But now, here he was in the middle of the sea on a rusted Jet Ski without an engine!

He looked around to see if there was any coast guard nearby. He had read about them in books, and seen them in movies. But there was only water, no human beings in sight. His Jet Ski had now slowed down and almost come to a halt. He was trying hard to balance himself on it. He didn’t have a life jacket too. Suddenly, there was a huge wave and he toppled over into the cold water.

Marty started swimming. He swam really fast because he could not bear the cold. He swam for about 15 minutes but it felt like he had been in the water for over five hours! He could not see the harbour getting any closer. Marty thought he was going to freeze in the water, just then he heard a loud horn and a siren. It was so loud and unpleasant that he would’ve shut his ears if it was some other day. But today, it felt like music to his ears!

It was the coast guard’s boat!

The helpful officers saved him from the freezing water and got him on their boat. They gave him some warm blankets and hot tea.

Marty ask them for a cell phone and called his mother.

“Hello”, his mother said on the other end of the phone. Marty heard her voice and burst out crying.
He had missed her so much. In between sobs, he managed to say, “Mom, I am near some harbour near the Buckingham Palace with the coast guards.”

“Marty!!!” shrieked his mother in joy. “I’m coming, we are coming right away!”

He disconnected the call and deleted his mother’s number from the coast guard's phone. He did not want to be careless about anything anymore.

The eighteen days on the strange island had changed Marty for good. He appreciated the small and big luxuries he had and was grateful for his family. His mother gifted him a puppy on his thirteenth birthday. It was an English Bull dog.

Marty named him Toto.
